Vestre will now include Hydro CIRCAL, Hydro’s high-quality recycled aluminium in the Folk line. Hydro CIRCAL consists of at least 75% recycled post-consumer scrap and comes with third-party certification and Environmental Product Declaration (EPD). Using an advanced sorting technology, aluminium from end-of-life windows, cans, doors and car parts are used to make high-quality recycled aluminium.
“In a fairly short time, Hydro CIRCAL has become a key part of our product portfolio, with increased demand from customers and various industries,” says Egil Hogna, Executive Vice President for Hydro’s Extruded Solutions business.
“We have already established a strong presence in the building and construction sector and will continue to focus on expanding our product reach. With Hydro CIRCAL, we provide aluminium with a carbon footprint that fits well with the most demanding sustainability requirements.”
Commercially viable
Vestre has received global recognition for their high-quality products, long-term sustainability standards and social impact. Combined with Vestre’s unique Scandinavian design, their furniture will now also be made with more sustainable aluminium.
Says Jan Christian Vestre, CEO of Vestre: “Vestre has integrated nine of the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals into its activities, with the aim of becoming the world’s most sustainable furniture manufacturer. In order to achieve this, we depend on ethically sourced and low-carbon material that can last and be recycled at the end of its lifetime.
“With Hydro CIRCAL, we can tick of all these boxes, as it offers both a certified recycled material that is fully recyclable and requires little maintenance. Choosing greener products also comes at a premium price, but we believe it is still commercially viable to select green over price.”
First in the industry
Hydro is the first aluminium producer supplying prime-quality end-of-life recycled aluminium with a certified content of more than 75% recycled post-consumer scrap. Demand for Hydro CIRCAL is on the rise, with new industries looking for material and solutions that can help meet their sustainability targets.
“It’s important to create awareness around material selection in a low-carbon economy,” says Hilde Kallevig, Head of Group Brand & Marketing in Hydro. “Hydro works to promote certified and branded greener products that can help our customers to meet their sustainability goals, differentiate and easily communicate that the materials they select are greener.
“Companies like Vestre are paving the way in this area and we are happy to now be able to offer Hydro CIRCAL for all aluminium used in their products.”
Vestre is a sustainability-minded Norwegian manufacturer of urban furniture, focused on creating social meeting places to ‘Bring people together’. Long-term sustainability is a prerequisite, as is its demand for 100% renewable energy throughout its supply chain. It has committed to incorporating nine of the UN's Sustainable Development Goals into its operations. Its installations can be found in Times Square in New York City, Milano, Berlin, London, Oslo, Oakland, California, and many others.
