Mobile adventure gear manufacturer SylvanSport, based in North Carolina in the U.S., has launched a highly innovative, ultra-light camping and travel trailer called the SylvanSport GO.

The SylvanSport GO was designed, from the frame out, to be a one-of-a-kind adventure trailer that's more versatile than a Swiss Army knife.

Flexible

The SylvanSport GO easily morphs from a low-profile high-capacity trailer, to a rugged hefty-toy-hauler, to a camper that can be pulled behind almost any vehicle.

Weighing only 700 lbs., it can haul up to 800 lbs. of gear, then comfortably sleep four at the end of the day.

As Tom Dempsey, founder of SylvanSport, says, “The ‘GO’ is designed by gear heads for gear heads.”

It’s all made possible by an aluminium frame, which is where Hydro comes in. Our extrusion and fabrication people helped the frame.

Our network of plants produces the extrusions and perform the fabrication, including sawing, machining, bending, welding and assembly. The result is a super-strong, light weight, and corrosion-resistant frame that promises miles of adventure on the open road.

"The trailer is truly a collaborative effort, with our engineering group working closely with SylvanSport design engineers from early on in the concept phase through to the final design, which is optimized for manufacturing," says Matt Landis, commercial engineering manager in Hydro.

Early praise

The SylvanSport GO is already turning heads.

The innovative design caught the eye of The ET Foundation, which awarded the SylvanSport GO grand prize in its International Aluminum Extrusion Design competition for 2008.

National Geographic Adventure named it “Best of Adventure Gear 2008,” calling this newly introduced multi-mode trailer “the coolest camper ever.”

And The New York Times featured the SylvanSport GO in a travel article about the increasing popularity of lightweight camper trailer alternatives in response to high gas prices in the U.S.

It is turning heads on the road, too.
