“This is an important step for Hydro in expanding our low-carbon aluminium offerings. We believe there is demand in the market for these kinds of products across our key segments,” says Einar Glomnes, Executive Vice President for Rolled Products.
DNV GL, an independent classification society, has certified Hydro’s entire process chain, down to finished strip and sheet from the rolling mill in Karmøy, Norway, in accordance with the Hydro REDUXA standard. It defines aluminium with CO2 emissions of maximum 4.0 kg per kg aluminium produced. The world average is 16.7 kg CO2 equivalents/kg.
Hydro REDUXA is made using renewable energy from hydropower, wind and solar, thus reducing carbon emissions compared to aluminium made with other energy sources.
The Karmøy rolling mill can deliver coils or tailored sheet, mill-finished or painted, from several alloys, which are most common for building applications. First customer orders have already been placed.
In addition, sheet ingot for rolled products, Hydro REDUXA is available in extrusion ingots, foundry alloys, and wire rod.
Hydro also offers rolled products with Hydro CIRCAL recycled aluminium, which contains a minimum of 75% post-consumer aluminium scrap.
