Hydro ranks high in child rights survey

The organization works with the Boston Consulting Group to assess company policies and activities in the areas of Workplace, Marketplace and Community & Environment. Hydro scored 8.7 out a maximum of 10 points overall.

“In the past year, Hydro has participated in the Global Child Forum’s Business Sounding Board,” says Åsne Burgess Øyehaug, Social Responsibility Manager in Hydro. “Through this board, we’ve supported the Forum by providing feedback on a range of initiatives and new tools available to companies to improve their respect for child rights.

“The Forum has also supported us in developing Hydro’s new Child rights program. We aim to improve our benchmark score through the program, but importantly, create more awareness in the organization and strengthen our ability to safeguard and support children’s rights.”

The Global Child Forum sees business as a positive driver for child rights. “When businesses integrate a children’s rights perspective into their operations – when they see children as key stakeholders and proxy indicators of progress on sustainable development goals – promise turns into practice which turns into progress,” the group says.
