It is too early to determine how a potential strike action would affect Hydro’s activities.
Hydro has aluminium production plants in Sunndal, Årdal, Høyanger and Karmøy, with a total of 2,300 employees and annual production capacity of 900,000 tonnes of primary aluminium.
The aluminium plants are covered by agreements between the parties ensuring a controlled production slowdown in case of a strike.
Layoff notices have been issued at the production sites.
The tariff negotiations and attempt at mediation between The Confederation of Norwegian Enterprise (NHO) and the national labour unions LO and YS broke down on Friday. A strike could be a reality from Wednesday, April 2, if the State Mediator is unable to work out a compromise.
