With a score of 78/100, Hydro ranks seventh on the list and best in the mining and metals industry. Four main factors of social responsibility have been assessed in the survey:
- Fundamental human rights in society (respect of privacy, individual freedom, prevention of harassment, rights of indigenous people)
- Employees labor rights
- Non-discrimination at work
- Human rights in supply chain
The survey was conducted by Vigeo Eiris, a global provider of environmental, social and governance (ESG) research to investors and public and private corporates. The agency evaluates the level of integration of sustainability factors into organizations’ strategy and operations, and undertakes a risk assessment to assist investors and companies’ decision-making.
“Hydro has scored high on Vigeo Eiris’ ratings of companies’ sustainability performance for many years. It is satisfying that we are recognized for the challenging, but important, work we do related to human rights in general and labor rights in particular. At the same time, we realize that there are unresolved issues, in particular in the supply chain,” says Elise Must, Head of CSR.
