Certification of Hydro Building Systems Belgium N.V. in Landen covers the site’s aluminium conversion operations. The company serves as the logistics and administrative center for Hydro’s aluminium building systems organization in the Benelux region.
It is the fourth company in Hydro’s Belgian network to achieve ASI certification, joining the aluminium extrusion plants in Ghlin, Lichtervelde and Raeren.
“Everyone here contributed to this successful outcome. It is a joint achievement that brings us forward in our sustainability agenda, and it supports our customer demands for aluminium products that are sourced and produced responsibly,” says Mieke Vander Plaetse, supply chain manager for Hydro in Landen.
In Landen, Hydro has a fully automated high-bay warehouse, where more than 4,000 aluminium profile picking locations are situated, in addition to thermal break assembly lines and the qualitative and fully automated coating line. Further, the integrated dispatch department, with automatic order picking of accessories and hardware, ensures that customers receive fast order processing. The Landen Excellence Center offers customers a modern showroom with real-sized samples of aluminium windows, doors and façade systems, and is used as a training center.
About 170 people are employed at the site.
Strong support for customers
“All but a handful of our locations in Europe are now ASI-certified, and our remaining sites on the continent have processes ongoing. I’m really excited for the Landen operation, and excited about our entire organization. We are doing this the right way. Doing business the right way is what our company is about,” says executive vice president Egil Hogna, who leads Hydro’s Extruded Solutions business area.
Extruded Solutions is the largest business area in Hydro with 21,000 employees in 40 countries. It delivers tailored aluminium components and solutions to all industries, from automotive and mass transportation to building and construction, electronics, offshore and maritime. The business area serves more than 30,000 customers across the world.
ASI aims to see sustainability and human rights principles increasingly embedded in supply chains.
The Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI) is a global, multi-stakeholder, non-profit standards setting and certification organization. It works toward responsible production, sourcing and stewardship of aluminium following an entire value chain approach. To this end, ASI launched its Performance Standard and Chain of Custody Standard in December 2017, and after a three year revision process, published new versions of the Standards in May 2022.
